New era of fantasy: Bethesda announces the Elder Scrolls 6: Sentinel

Executive Producer Todd Howard spoke in the clip about the importance of the studio’s games to players before the logo for The Elder Scrolls 6: Sentinel appeared. The announcement comes almost eight years after the first teaser in 2018.

The predecessor, The Elder Scrolls 5: Skyrim, was released approximately 15 years ago and, according to Bethesda, remains the studio’s most-played title. Todd Howard later stated that the early announcement of the new installment was not an ideal decision.

The video also contains hints at Hammerfell as a possible setting. A quote from Yazar, a Mothpriest serving the Queen of Hammerfell in 4E 206, speaks of a lost future and a “scattered sand of time.” This supports reports suggesting a plot in the region of Hammerfell on Tamriel.

Sentinel is a city in Hammerfell, located on the northwest coast of the Iliac Bay. The province lies west of Cyrodiil and southwest of Skyrim and was previously featured in The Elder Scrolls 2: Daggerfall and The Elder Scrolls Adventures: Redguard. A former developer, Bruce Nesmith, had suggested that a setting in the Iliac Bay could allow for the use of boats.

Bethesda is currently withholding further details regarding The Elder Scrolls 6: Sentinel. A release date and supported platforms are not yet known. The majority of developers at Bethesda Game Studios are currently working on the game. Parallel to this, the studio is looking at future projects in the Fallout series.

The atmosphere within the Redmond corporation is tense, as employees fear further job cuts following recent layoffs at the parent company Microsoft.
