About Plainwire
Plainwire is a general news site in English for readers in the United States, the United Kingdom, Canada, Australia and Ireland. Our promise is in our name: the news, plainly told. Short sentences, the key fact first, no clickbait.
What we cover
World news, the US, the UK, politics, business, technology, science, health and climate. We cover business and technology as general news: policy, the biggest companies, jobs and regulation. We do not cover sport, celebrity gossip, gaming, cryptocurrencies, stock picks or gadget reviews.
How Plainwire is made
Every Plainwire story starts from a report published by a named news outlet. We use AI tools to write our own version of that report in plain English, and an editor on our desk checks it before it is published: the headline, the facts and figures, the standfirst and the “Why it matters” box. Each story names and links its source in a source box at the end, and says that the text is an AI-assisted version checked by our desk. Our editorial policy explains the whole process, including what we never publish and how we correct mistakes.
The desk also writes The Brief, the five biggest stories at 6 a.m. and 6 p.m. Eastern, each summed up in one line, and our explainers, which give lasting background to the news.

Plainwire is independent of the outlets it cites and of any political party or company it covers. It is funded by advertising: once our ads are switched on, they will be clearly labeled “Advertisement” and kept apart from our stories. Advertisers have no say in what we publish.
